First destination when we visited the United Arabian Emirates was Abu Dhabi. It was on our travel wish-list for a while.
We stayed at the famous Shangri-La Hotel from where you have an amazing view on the grand mosque. The hotel has a nice pool area and different Restaurants inside where we had delicious food from different countries. Unfortunately in Abu Dhabi we felt that most of the restaurants are inside of big Hotels and we couldn’t find some very local food in our short stay.
Of course we went to visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque the other day. This Mosque is truly a stunner! It was built between 1996 and 2007. The project was launched by the late president of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who wanted to establish a structure that would unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with the historical and modern values of architecture and art. His final resting place is located on the grounds adjacent to the complex.
To enter the Mosque all the visitors have to be covered. Women need to cover their heads too and wear an Abaya. This is a traditional islamic dress for women to wear over your normal clothing. Don’t worry you don’t need to buy an Abaya you’ll get one at the entrance of the Mosque.
The next day we went to visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi which was opened 2017. The exhibition of this museum is called “See Humanity in a new light”. It is worth a visit because the museum itself is a gorgeous building and also the exhibition was very interesting. It shows the story of humanity in twelve inspiring chapters. Each room shows a different chapter from history using works from prehistoric artifacts to contemporary artworks.
What we liked most about this exhibition is that in each chapter all the different cultures, religions and countries are united.
After the museum we went to the very close Saadiyat beach which is a gorgeous white beach where you can find many hotels with beach Restaurants to have lunch and some Cocktails 🙂
